It's funny...

...and by "funny", I mean "interesting" or "weird".

I get a lot of pleasure out of trying to make different things to eat. My attempts to feed myself are approached with enthusiasm. The act of eating however is a different story.

I miss Lisa's company more in the eating than in the cooking. I guess because I'm not the cook she was I can separate the kitchen experience from the eating experience.

And it's the eating experience where I have problems. Especially in the evenings because Lisa and I ate together in the evenings.

And part of the thing is that other than a handful of meals, I haven't eaten for pleasure or derived pleasure from eating since Lisa passed away.

I eat food for fuel. Period.

Mind you, I try to make things that taste good and give me culinary pleasure, but any derived pleasure is a secondary thing in my brain.

I just ate some chicken breasts I grilled yesterday, they were dressed in various seasonings, Dijon mustard and balsamic vinegar and had lovely grill marks.

Just food.

Just fuel.

Dinner time is lonely time. At least it's a reminder of that.

Sorry for the downbeat. Just had to get it out.

Peace,
- O.

Quick Idol rec list from my phone..,

Okay, a few of my favorites in LJ Idol are in danger this week... They were put in a small tribe and being newbies, are not getting the attention I think they deserve. They are [info]everywordiwrite and [info]jem0000000. If you wouldn't mind reading their entries, I'm sure you'd agree that they wrote great stories. Give the others a read too and choose for yourself who to vote for, but I wanted to give them a shoutout anyway as two underdogs who I think deserve more attention in their tribe. Both are newbies up against a bunch of vets in a small tribe (and one other newbie whom I'm listing below because I love her entry, but she appears safe for the time being).

Don't get me wrong, I like that whole tribe... I'm just wanting a second look for the newbies on bottom since they don't have name recognition to fall back on and they wrote terrific pieces this week.

I'm on my phone, so I can't easily link their entries. But the poll is here:

Also go check out my other favorites below (who aren't in danger so they don't need your vote as badly, just good reads). I wanted to do a true rec list, but I didn't have time until now. Sorry this is sloppy :/

ok for all my still new friends, I don't usually post this often.

I just have to share this. I just bought this toaster for my husband for Father's Day. Tim's birthday is the same day, so he's getting one too.

Purge 2012 Day 1: The Master Bath

One of my goals for the summer is to purge the house of stuff.

Ike is doing in-house therapy for the next two weeks. We can't leave the house and Elli and Gwen are across the country. Sounds like an opportunity for me!

I decided to start slow today. The Master Bath. I pulled everything off of shelves, opened drawers, tossed ten year old makeup, expired medicine and products that are just OLD. I even cleaned the drawers and shelves themselves. Everything in that bathroom is reorganized and has a beautiful mise en place. I was even able to move the first aid supplies from the bookcase in the bedroom (with the adult reading collection) to one of the medicine cabinets.

Then I washed the entire bathroom down. Woot! Go me!

I wanted to start small. A small room that I could go over with Gray in tow. I then folded a couple of loads of laundry. Logic would dictate that I do the Master Bedroom next, but since the girls aren't here...I'm going to go do their room next. It will go a whole lot faster with them gone.

Currently Gray is napping and Ike is working with the therapist. I need to figure out what to do for dinner. But next? Another load of laundry I think.

Shiny!

My author copies of Flight of the Godkin Griffin have arrived! They look pretty spiffy, I tell you! Sofawolf did a nice job on them, and the interior illustrations look great in the shaded pencil grayscale… though maybe my favorite little flourish was the Godson’s signature, which they scanned from a drawing I gave them. Very fancy!

This will be my ninth book in print (as opposed to available as e-book only), and the second to come from a small press rather than from me directly. It is weird to think of myself as an author with multiple novels in print, but… there you go.

It’s funny, when I was doing the painting I wasn’t altogether sure it would work as a cover. But I think it turned out just right…! Pretty cool. :)

But anyway. Shiny!
